WHO IS JAN ROTH??

You and I have never before met, yet you may be entrusting me with the most precious day of your life, so I want to share with you who I am. To realize your perfect day, it is necessary that you feel completely confident I will, continually, focus on and work in accordance with your best interests – from the time you sign the Wedding Contract, through the day of clean-up after your event.
Born in Berkeley, CA, I was raised in Grass Valley, four miles from Nevada City. For you locals, I attended Bell Hill, Grant, Mount St. Mary’s Academy, and Hennessey schools; my family left the area when I was twelve, and I moved back here some forty years later.
WHAT IS MY VISION FOR THE ESTATE?
My friends call me "our local Robin Hood." My initial dream was to develop a beautiful, spacious venue, close to town, where we could invite local non-profits to come and use the property without charge. In the beginning this was feasible, as I was handling all maintenance duties myself. But as the gardens grew, so too did the labor requirements. What once took a few hours a week to maintain now requires a few hours a day. Thus, I presently have a small crew assisting me with seasonal maintenance and the grooming of all of our venues prior to each and every event.A few examples of the many non-profit organizations that have/still annually use the estate:
- Indian Springs Vineyard's Annual Bella Nota Classical Concert - benefiting The Hospitality House, our local homeless shelter
- CATS (Community Asian Theater of the Sierras) - supporting Asian educational performances
- Animal Save's Volunteer Appreciation Night - in support of their mobile spay/neuter bus
- Soroptimist International of Grass Valley - several fundraisers for women's /children's issues
- Nevada City and Grass Valley Chambers of Commerce "After Hour Mixers" - facilitating valuable networking for the business community
- The Welcome Wagon Club - dinner/dance benefits for various charities
- The Sons of Norway - their annual picnic
- Unity of The Gold Country Spiritual Center - annual picnics
- Other picnics/retreats held here have served churches throughout Nevada County
- A Welcome Club sponsored lecture/book signing on our expansive lawn by renown author Jonathan Robinson
- Native Daughters of the Golden West - annual luncheon
- PFLAG - annual BBQ picnic
- SNMH (Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital) "Red Rose Society"
- "In Concert Sierra" - appreciation dinner
- NUHS (Nevada Union High School) - 20th reunion dinner
- Political fundraisers and "Meet & Greet" events
- MIM – Music in the Mountains, Annual Friends Appreciation Night
- Senior Citizens Center – Meetings regarding new facility in Grass Valley
- United Way of Nevada County
(There were many more but I did not record them early-on.)
SO HOW DID "WEDDINGS" HAPPEN? After I designed a Wedding Garden eighteen years ago for our son’s wedding, others immediately began asking if they could use it, and The Roth Estate was born. Today I charge a fee for private events, which covers some costs of my grounds’ maintenance, and allows me to offer the estate, without charge, to viable non-profit organizations for purposes of fund raising. Since I am no longer in a position to devote hours to service clubs or serve on boards, this is the manner in which I have chosen to benefit our community at large – the way in which I am realizing my dream….“ God Almighty first planted a garden.
And indeed, it is the purest of human pleasures.”
~ Francis Bacon
I hope my gardens will give you as much pleasure as they do me!
